About this Dashboard

This tool helps Arizona school districts analyze how ESA (Empowerment Scholarship Account) vouchers may affect enrollment. It shows:

  • How many current ESA students live in each district?
  • How many students previously attended the district, and left for ESAs since 2017.
  • Each district’s total addressable market (estimated ages 5-17) using SAIPE data.
  • Latest enrollment figures from ADE to help compare actual enrollment against overall market size.

Data Notes

  • Data Sources:
    • ESA counts, district boundaries, and SAIPE data are drawn from publicly available resources (ADE, Census Bureau).
    • Private school locations come from the most recent NCES Private School Survey (2021 - 2022)
  • Data Limitations:
    • Counts of Former Students include 2017 to date.
    • The Total Addressable Market (Pop 5-17) is an estimate from SAIPE (Census Bureau).
  • Prototype Status: This dashboard is under active development.

Getting Started

To explore how ESA vouchers impact your district:

  1. Search Districts: Type a district name or click on the map to select it. Union Districts are hidden by default; toggle them if needed.
  2. Select Multiple: You can pick multiple districts to see combined stats—like total ESA students or total enrollment across them.
  3. All Districts Table: Use the “Show All Districts” button to open a sortable table with key metrics for every district.
  4. Review the Map: Zoom in on any district to see private school locations (they cluster if many are close together). Hover to see details, or click to re-center.
  5. Reset as Needed: Click “Reset Selections” to clear everything and start fresh.
